The Section of Wound Healing & Tissue Repair at the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System is a formal part of the division of Vascular Surgery. It is our goal to provide the highest quality of care possible to patients with chronic wounds by providing personalized treatment with a focus on limb salvage and patient centered outcomes. The Section of Wound Healing and Tissue Repair provides clinical care through comprehensive evaluation, management, and treatment of all types of chronic non-healing wounds on both an outpatient and inpatient basis.
Experts in care: The wound care team has many years of experience and over 65 scientific publications on wound healing. Each clinician has had extensive training in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of a wide variety of non-healing wounds. Both faculty members of the section have completed a one year fellowship in wound healing and tissue repair at UIC under Dr. William Ennis.
Leaders in care: The University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System is home to the first and only medical fellowship in Wound Healing and Tissue Repair and is partnered with the American College of Wound Healing and Tissue Repair (ACWHTR), a physician-based non-profit organization in Illinois. The ACWHTR has as its primary goal, the creation of a formal specialty in medicine and surgery for wound healing and a board certification process for physicians.
